TRIATHLETES: Please remember, there is no pre-running or mtn biking on course before race morning!. It is an extreme safety hazard, and those caught using the Soldier Hollow facilities improperly (ie running or using a mtn bike on their groomed trails) will forfeit their BASH race entry with no refund of money.
A good area to practice riding mountain bikes on packed snow is on the road that goes between Jeremy Ranch & East Canyon. A map is available HERE for how to access that road. We will also have a pre-race clinic in the weeks before BASH where attendees will be able to get some practice on their mountain bikes on groomed snow. Complete details coming soon. What You Get (All Events):
Besides the opportunity to come out and try your hand at 1 of three races (or even all three) at a world-class former Olympic venue...each participant will also receive a tech winter beanie, tech running hat, Hammer Nutrition water bottle and sponsor swag goodies. As well as being eligible for any Overall & Age-Group awards offered. Fruit, bagels, Hammer Heed, Hammer Gel, water & warm drinks will will be served at the finish area.
Age-Group & Award Breakdowns:
- Full & Short Triathlons
Awards will go to the top 3 males and top 3 females in both the Full & Short distances. The top male and top female in each age-group will also receive awards. Age-groups will be broken down into the following categories for males and females: (under 18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 65-69, 70+. Awards will be presented to the top relay team in both the short and full distances. Relay teams may be comprised of 2 or 3 individuals, with each doing a leg of the race (or, if a 2-person team, one person will do 2 legs).
- QUALIFYING FOR 2010 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS (Full Dist. Tri): The top three male and female American finishers in the 2010 BASH Full Distance Triathlon, will qualify for the ITU Elite Winter Triathlon World Championships that will be held February 13-14, 2010 in Eidsvoll (Oslo), Norway. The top 3 American finishers per gender at the Winter Nationals event will qualify for the Elite Team with NO roll downs. Unfilled slots will be selected via resume submission. Resumes must be submitted to the National Office no later than January 18th, 2010. To be eligible for selection an athlete does not need to be a licensed elite but must be a current USA Triathlon annual member. Above information to be finalized by USAT Board of Directors.
Qualified athletes will receive $1200 travel stipend, uniform as well as paid entry. Athletes do not have to be a USAT Elite Member but must have a current USAT Membership - Elite or Amateur. One-day licenses are also available. There is a $3,000 prize purse for Elite athletes in the BASH Full Distance Triathlon.
The top three Age Group athletes also qualify but are fully responsible for their own costs if they choose to attend the World Championship.

Packet Pick-Up & Late Registration:
Packet pick-up and late registration for all races will take place in a portable building that is located near the Comp Center in the Stadium. The Start/Finish areas for all events are also located just adjacent to this building.

Pre-Race Meetings/Briefings:
There will be a pre-race meeting/briefing for each event 15 minutes prior to the start of that race. Information regarding the event will be presented and you will have the opportunity to ask questions. Those meetings will take place at start line areas.

USA Triathlon (Full & Short Triathlete Competitors):
Winter triathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned sport, so in accordance with USA Triathlon requirements.
1. You must bring Photo ID to packet pickup. No exceptions. You will not be allowed to race without it.
2. USA Triathlon membership is required at this event. A single day membership is $10.00 per person. Annual memberships are $39.00 per person and must be purchased in advance through the USAT website at www.usatriathlon.org.
3. If you are an annual USAT member, you must bring proof of current USAT membership to packet pickup at Soldier Hollow. If you have not received your membership card, you must log on to www.usatriathlon.org. and print out a temporary card. Remember it takes 2-3 weeks for your membership to be processed if you send the application via fax or mail, so if you have an event coming up sooner than that, purchase your membership online so you can print a temporary card immediately.
Ski Rentals (Triathlons & Sprint Ski Race):
Should you need skis for the triathlon or skate ski race, rentals will be available on race day at the Soldier Hollow lodge. Soldier Hollow features a full service Rossignol Demo Center with both skate and classic equipment rentals. Full day rental for adults is $19, youth (7-17) is $12 and senior (65+) is $15.

Aid Stations (Triathlon Only):
There will be 1 aid station during the race, it will be located at the exit of transition area. No aid stations will be on the run, due to freezing issues of gel & fluids. Water and and electrolyte/carbohydrate drink along with energy gels will be available at that transition aid station. It is suggested that athletes take at least 1 water bottle on their bikes and carry a waist bottle holder for the ski portion.
Transition Area (Triathlon Only):
There will be one transition area, located near the start-finish area. There will be bike racks to use to place your bike, and plenty of room for your skis and other accessories. Rack spots will not be pre-assigned. The transition area will close at 8:50AM to prep for the 9AM mass start. We ask that everyone be at the start line (just below transition) by 8:55AM to ensure an on-time start. Only athletes are allowed in the transition area. Pre-Race Warm Ups (All Events):
Those athletes competing in the triathlon will be allowed to run, mtn bike or ski on the marked race course ONLY ON RACE MORNING up until 8:30AM, at that time the course will be closed to prep for the race start at 9AM. The 5K Snowshoe Fun Run competitors will not be allowed on the course to preview or warm up. Sprint Ski Race competitors will have complete access to the Soldier Hollow trails for warm-ups.

Free Winter Tri Clinics - Dec. 19th & Jan. 2nd:
MOUNTAIN BIKING & RUNNING ON SNOW CLINIC - JAN. 2ND - 1:30PM - JEREMY RANCH:
New to the sport of Winter Triathlon? If so, this clinic is for you! Join us for this FREE informational and hands-on clinic, where the basics of mountain biking & running on snow will take center stage. Topics such as what tire pressure to run on your mountain bike, tire width and size, mtn. bike and running shoe options, transitions and clothing options will all be discussed. Be sure to bring your mountain bikes and running shoes, as after our brief discussion/Q&A session at the beginning we will hit the trails for a ride and run (all abilities welcome)!The clinic will take place on the dirt road (packed snow during the Winter) that connects Jeremy Ranch to East Canyon. NORDIC SKI CLINIC - DEC. 19TH - 1:30PM - SOLDIER HOLLOW:
A free Nordic Ski Clinic will take place on December 19th 1:30PM at Soldier Hollow Legacy Park, clinic is in preparation for the 2010 BASH Winter Race Festival. Instructors will be on hand from TUNA (The Utah Nordic Alliance) to help athletes of all levels. Groups will be split into beginner, intermediate and advanced categories, both skate and classic techniques will be offered. The clinic is FREE of charge! Soldier Hollow is offering all clinic attendees FREE trail passes as well (an $18 value)! Ski rentals are also available at the Soldier Hollow Lodge at their 1/2 day rates ($14 adult, $9 youth, $11 senior). Clinic will take place down by the Competition Center (not the Lodge). Let the kiddies join in on the fun too, as Soldier Hollow has the longest tubing hill lanes in Utah! So bring the whole family along!
Race Finish Times (Triathlon's):Times for the Full Triathlon will be similar to summer Olympic distance triathlon times...2-3 hours.
Tubing Hill - Fun for the Kid's:
Be sure to bring the kiddies along to the BASH Winter Tri, as Soldier Hollow offers the longest tubing lanes in Utah. The hill has lengthy 1,200-foot sliding lanes with lift service for towing people up the hill for tubing day or night under the lights, and a sound system keeps the airwaves full of enjoyable tunes.
A trip to the Soldier Hollow tubing hill is affordable family fun—where kids are kids, and adults get the chance to be kids again. People literally race to get back in line as quickly as possible for another plunge. It’s a great outdoor activity for everyone to participate in.
To assure a quality experience, Soldier Hollow limits the sale of tubing tickets. On Saturdays and busy holidays, in particular, they encourage pre-purchase of tubing hill tickets. Tickets can be purchased in advance with a credit card at 435.654.2002 or in person at the Lodge before the start of the triathlon.
Soldier Hollow Ski School:
Soldier Hollow's Ski School offers a great introduction to the sport of nordic skiing. They provide up to date Rossignol equipment which, coupled with their friendly instructors, makes learning very easy. Rates includes trail pass, equipment, and a group lesson. Adult packages are $45 and junior packages are $25.
Athlete & Spectator Parking (All Events):
Athletes and spectators will be able to park in the Soldier Hollow stadium parking lot (not the lodge). You will then carry your gear into the stadium area to be set up in the transition area (near the biathlon range). There will be signs helping to point you in the right direction.

From Salt Lake City: take I-80 East to Silver Creek Junction (exit 146). Go east on U.S. 40 past Jordanelle Reservoir toward Heber City. Take right turn on State Road 113 (100 South) to Midway. Located in Wasatch Mountain State Park, Soldier Hollow is about 53 miles from downtown Salt Lake City.
From Park City: Take State Road 248 East to U.S. 40 to Heber City and then follow U.S. 40 to Highway 189. Take 189 to State Road 113, turn right onto State Road 113. Follow 113 until right after railroad tracks, turn left and follow signs to Soldier Hollow. Located in Wasatch Mountain State Park.
